Choosing your wedding dress is one of the most important decisions that you’ll make. Finding the right dress can be a challenge and shopping certainly is a stressful time. However, there are some common mistakes that brides make when they’re searching for the perfect dress. These shopping mistakes can be avoided though, so make sure you don’t run into them.
1. Not Knowing Your Budget
Although a dress can be a significant part of your wedding costs, you should have a budget for your wedding with an approximate amount that you can spend on your dress. This amount is especially important for your stylist to know when you go shopping. Only try on dresses that you can afford and be aware that there are beautiful dresses in almost any price range.
2. Bringing Too Many People
When you pick out your wedding dress, it can be tempting to invite your friends and family. However, too many opinions can give you second thoughts. Many brides have purchased bad wedding dresses based on the advice of too many people. Choose a few people who will give you an honest opinion and won’t try to influence you to choose a dress that you don’t like. Usually, two or three people is more than enough.
3. Shopping Early or Late
When it comes to ordering a wedding gown, this can take anywhere from a week to 16 weeks. You don’t want to be rushed so give yourself a time frame to find a dress. The dress should be picked out at least four months before the wedding but make sure that you don’t give yourself too much time either. By the time the wedding comes around, your tastes may have changed, or the dress may not be in style. You’ll also want to leave enough time should your dress require alterations due to weight loss/gain.
4. Not Doing Research
If you go into a wedding dress store unprepared, you may be overwhelmed with your choices. Although your stylist can help you make some decisions, you should have an idea about what you want. For example, a more formal wedding will have a different dress than a casual wedding. You should also look at some gown styles before you go and decide on a few styles you like or don’t like.
5. Only Trying One Style
Although you may have a style you like in mind, it’s a good idea to try out a few different ones. Your stylist will often push you to broaden your range and it’s a good idea. You may find something that suits you better. Even if not, you won’t have to worry about regrets when you find the dress you like. You don’t want to miss out so try at least two or three different styles.
When it comes to your wedding dress, you want to choose a gown that suits you and the wedding. Many brides end up making one or more of these mistakes. If you want to avoid having second thoughts, don’t make any of these and you’ll have a better chance of finding the right dress.
